Beth Israel Hospital to Use Google Glass in ER

Boston Globe 4-09-2014 Dr. Steven Horng launched a Google Glass pilot program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center late last year because he thought the futuristic device could help save lives. One night in January proved that. A patient with bleeding in the brain told Horng he was allergic to certain blood pressure drugs — which the doctor needed to slow the hemorrhage — but didn’t know which ones. Horng had little time to leaf through the man’s medical files or search for records on a computer, but with Google Glass, he didn’t have to. Instead he quickly called up the patient’s information on the device’s tiny screen and saved…

    Google Glass Health Care Challenge

Last evening I pleasure of sitting on a panel at an event hosted by Health Innovators discussing the future of medicine and specifically Google Glass. The event title was Google Glass the new frontier in Healthcare Innovation? and although I’m not sure how many converts were made, I did come away with knowledge of an incredible organization pushing medical thought leaders to push the boundaries of wearable tech. One of my co-panelists, Sony Salzman of MedTech Boston told us about the ongoing Google Glass Challenge and some of the ideas submitted, the strict judging criteria and generally gave us insight into the brains focusing on Glass development in medicine. There…

    Meetup taken down – Really?

I mean seriously. Some hacker dude instituted a DDOS attack against Meetup.com beginning Thursday the 27th of February and seeming to end on the 4th of March. Meetup.com!!! Where hikers plan their weekend outings, wine lovers plan tastings and yes, many techies plan and find networking and learning events to attend. All over a $300 extortion attempt. From the Meetup blog: Here’s what happened. On Thursday morning, I received this email: Date: Thu, Feb 27, 2014 at 10:26 AM Subject: DDoS attack, warning A competitor asked me to perform a DDoS attack on your website. I can stop the attack for $300 USD. Let me know if you are interested…

    Experiencing Google Developer Office Hours

I had the pleasure this past week to attend Google Glass Developer Office Hours and Design Sprint, held at the “Base Camp” high above Chelsea Market in Mid-town Manhattan. As a member of the Google Glass Explorers, I’ve learned that Google is not the typical software company. They do not follow the norms many of us have come to take for granted from large organizations. For one, they treat us beta testers as members of the team. They’ll take my calls, answer emails and meet in person as often as needed to help developers become the best that they can be.

    Glass Goes Snowboarding

I spent this past Saturday exploring Okemo Mountain Resort with my son Dan, assistant manager of the terrain parks. The video above is an edited version of Dan’s ride through the half pipe wearing Glass. We took many photos and videos which will be posted soon. The purpose of the visit, chronicle a day in the life of the parks crew. Fun took over so I will need a return trip to truly show how convenient Glass is for documenting a job and demonstrating a process. For now, here are a few of the pics. The fire pit is a great place to rest Jeremy and Dan moving a feature…

    Google announces prescription frames

Google has just announced their line of frames, minus lenses, that fit onto the wearable computer Google Glass. These follow along with partner companies announcing the coming availability of complete prescription solutions. In their official Google Plus announcement the Glass team said If we had a nickel for every time someone has asked about prescription lenses for Glass… well, we’d have a lot of nickels. So we want you to be the first to know that the Titanium Collection is here, with a handful of new styles for Glass so you can make it your own. Whether you wear prescription glasses or just want a new look, we’ve got four…

    How Google+ saw my 2013

If you are a regular user and frequent photo/video uploader on Google Plus, then chances are you received a little present for the holiday. The Google Auto Awesome system has built compilation videos from selected photos in each user’s stream. Mine just happen to be mostly #throughglass or of Glass and include many first time sightings of Glass and a number of my family and friends. The auto awesome system per Google “Enjoy fun new versions of your pictures. You’ll see your photos combined into short animations, joined into panoramas, and merged into group shots where everyone looks good. “ Some have raised concerns about the privacy of our personal…
